As a travel writer and photographer, Don has written numerous travel articles about both U.S. and European destinations. He frequently travels to Europe supported by and on behalf of companies and organizations such as Rail Europe, the German Tourist Board, the Switzerland Tourist Board, the Spanish Tourist Board, the Flanders Tourist Office, Belgium Tourist Office, Croatian Tourism Office, Czech Republic Tourism Board, Ireland Tourism Office, American Airlines, Swiss International Airlines, InterContinental Hotels, Steigenberger Hotel Group, Avalon Waterways, Uniworld Cruises, Viking River Cruises and KD River Cruises.
He writes for European Traveler, Leisure Group Travel magazine for travel agents, German Life magazine, Chicago Tribune TribLocal, USA Today, Gemutlichkeit Travel Letter, Journal-Topic (Chicago area/17 papers) Newspapers, Trains magazine, Railfan magazine, the Northwest Indiana Times,and his own publications, and takes photos of people, historical places and attractions, festivals and foods. He was also the editor of the U.S. Army newspaper at Fort Knox, Kentucky while in the U.S. Army.
