St. Nicholas Fair (through December 23)
Featuring gifts and crafts from across Yorkshire and the United Kingdom as well as local farm produce, the St. Nicholas Fair is one of the most popular Christmas markets in the UK. The city comes alive with bustling stalls, carol singers and roving musicians. Mulled wine, brandy-laced hot chocolate and chestnuts roasting on the street corner all add to the festive feel.

Christmas at Castle Howard (through December 23)
Each year Castle Howard is transformed when the house is decorated for the festive season with thousands of baubles, garlands, candles and wreaths. The interior is lit by candles and firelight and dressed with traditional Christmas decorations. To add to the festive feel, there is live music performed under the Christmas tree or by the roaring log fire every day. Take a little time to explore the grounds which take on a beauty of their own in the crisp winter months, from the sparkling lakes to the twinkling trees which line the drive.
